1. What is the Vickie Remoe Prize for Journalism & New Media?

The Vickie Remoe Prize is an award for achievements in news and online journalism, photojournalism, videography, and content creation within Sierra Leone. 

2. Who created the prize, and how is it financed?

The Vickie Remoe Prize was created by Sierra Leonean Multimedia Journalist and Creative Digital Entrepreneur, Vickie Remoe.

3. Why was the prize created?

The Vickie Remoe Prize was created to amplify media excellence, increase the quality of stories and mentor the next generation of local storytellers.

4. How much is the prize?

The total prize value for this year is SLL 200,000,000 or NSL 200,000. 

5. Who can apply for the Vickie Remoe Prize?

Sierra Leonean journalists and content creators living in Sierra Leone. For the two news categories, print news and online journalism and photojournalism, only journalists with less than five years of professional experience can apply. For content creators and filmmakers, there is no limit on the length of time in the industry. 

6. Can I submit multiple entries in the same category?

Yes, you may submit multiple entries for the same category, but you must submit a different application for each entry. One submission per application.

7. Can I submit multiple entries in different categories?

Yes, you can submit multiple entries for different categories. 

8. Can one person win in multiple categories?

Yes, one person can win in multiple categories.

9. Is it true that the Vickie Remoe Prize uses a gender quota?

Yes, every prize category has a 1:1 male-to-female ratio. For the ten prizes in the four categories, the maximum number of male applicants can win five, and the same for women. 

10. What happens if I submit my application without the referees?

If you don’t submit valid references, your application will be incomplete. Ask for your references’ consent before completing your application, and ensure you get their most updated contact information. If you can't contact your references because you gave the wrong information, it will count against you.

11. What if I’m a content creator, but my English isn’t excellent?

The Vickie Remoe Prize is not an English language proficiency test. The only category where English matters are in news writing. We are looking for content, creativity, relevance, and meaning for other categories.

12. What if I apple and I don’t win?

You can try again next year.
