Lyoa Honey is Sierra Leone’s sweetness in a jar
Over the past couple months I've had the sweet pleasure of discovering Lyoa Honey. First seen on Instagram and later the real deal at Radisson Blu.
Lyoa (Lion in Portuguese) is sourced from bee hives in Kabala. If you haven't been to or through Kabala the one thing you need to know, is that it is in Koinadugu District, one of the most, if not the most picturesque places in Sierra Leone. It is famous for its greenery, rivers, high ranges, and cooler temperatures.
Sierra Leone’s honey has a specific taste identity. I cant put it into exact words but there is definitely a citrus note to it. Unlike the stuff you've seen, that light golden colored honey, ours is more of a burnt orange.
I'm a coffee and honey kind of person and so a jar of Lyoa has become a part of my morning brew routine. When I'm home in Accra, having Lyoa with my cuppa brings me that much closer to a Freetown morning.
You can purchase it in Freetown and follow the brand on social media. Search for @LyoaSourced on Instagram or Facebook. I just saw that they've launched a line of candles too.
Product extension that's where its at. Lyoa Sourced is owned by a young woman, who I've been meaning to meet but have yet to. On Valentine's Day I got home to find she had delivered me a custom jar. It really did make my day.
In any case Lyoa Sources is clearly going places. Love the branding too 🙌🏾❤️🇸🇱.
Now back to my coffee 🥰.
