Young African Mom: What to wear to hide your pregnancy baby bump
Some moms to be want to bare their belly when they're pregnant, and some moms to be don't. I was in the latter. I was pregnant for 8 months of the year 2015 and I spent 7 of those months posting photos on social media hiding my pregnancy in full view.
Only a few, very few suspected I was pregnant, and those who guessed did so because my skin was pale and my nose was fat (more about the ugly fat pregnancy nose in another post).
Most of the dresses I wore were custom made here in Accra using a mix of plain and African prints. I didn't want to spend on expensive maternity wear so I made dresses I knew would work during and post pregnancy.
The key to camouflaging your bump is volume, and movement. Choose textiles that move; light cardigans and scarves that you can use in a creative way to block those prying eyes. Last but not least a nice solid wide bag is also your friend in photos. If you hold the bag and turn sideways, you can still post on social media while keeping your pump a secret.
Goodluck. xo
